Young Chefs Showcase Global Flavors in 2026 Future Chef Competition
Students in grades 3–6 across the district recently showcased their culinary creativity in the annual Sodexo Future Chef Competition. This year’s theme, “Passport to Flavor,” invited students to explore global cuisines and bring international inspiration to their dishes.
All seven elementary schools participated, with more than 100 unique recipes submitted. From savory classics to globally inspired creations, students demonstrated impressive skill, imagination, and enthusiasm for cooking.
After careful review, seven finalists were selected to compete in the 2026 Future Chef finals:
- Puerto Rican Pionono Egg Rolls – Sophia Rivera, Rosa Parks Elementary
- Philly Cheese Puffs – Jai Kavanaugh, Rosa Parks Elementary
- Chicken Lollipop – Lennox Adams, Rosa Parks Elementary
- Turkish Kisir (Bulgur Salad) – Asya Dikmen, Creekview Elementary
- Hawaiian-Style Mexican Quesadilla – Harper McGuire, Creekview Elementary
- Homemade Hamilton Family-Style Mac and Cheese – Aliana Hamilton, Miller Ridge Elementary
- Enchiladas – Lily Ramirez Garcia, Amanda Elementary
During the final competition, students worked alongside a sous chef partner to prepare, plate, and present their dishes—all within 60 minutes. Their creations were evaluated on several criteria, including taste, healthy attributes, originality, ease of preparation, kid appeal, and plate presentation.
The event was judged by a distinguished panel, including Superintendent Debbie Houser, Treasurer Randy Bertram, Senior Director of Curriculum Keri Hensley, and Board of Education members Tara Ramsey-Hunter, Julie Baker, and Vice President Anita Scheibert.
After an impressive display of talent, Asya Dikmen, a 5th grader from Creekview Elementary, was named this year’s top winner for her Turkish Kisir (Bulgur Salad). Dikmen will now advance to the regional competition, representing the district with her globally inspired dish.
The Future Chef Competition continues to be a celebration of student creativity, cultural exploration, and the joy of cooking—proving that even the youngest chefs can make a big impact in the kitchen.
