Winter Safety Check: Before You Head Outside
Winter Safety Check: Before You Head Outside
Jan 27, 2026
As winter temperatures drop to very cold levels this week, Middletown City Schools remains focused on keeping students and families safe and supported. We continue to monitor conditions across school campuses and roadways in coordination with our transportation department and will communicate when delays or closures become necessary.
Staying Safe in Cold & Snowy Conditions
During cold and snowy weather, awareness and preparation help keep everyone safe. Working together, we can support students by encouraging:
- Warm clothing and covered skin
- Short wait times outdoors
- Safe, visible waiting areas away from traffic
- Extra care on icy or snow-covered surfaces
Clearing Sidewalks and Bus Stops When Possible
When families and students are able, efforts to clear snow and ice near bus stops can help improve safety. We recognize that conditions vary across our community, and not every bus stop can be cleared. When snow or ice is present, additional steps to support student safety can include:
- Encouraging students to stand in the safest, most visible area available
- Reminding them to stay well back from the road until the bus comes to a complete stop
- Using extra caution when stepping on or off the bus
