New Chaperone Expectations for Home Athletic Events
Beginning February 1, 2026, Middletown City Schools will implement chaperone expectations for all home athletic events. These expectations are in place to support a safe, respectful, and well-supervised environment, while strengthening the overall experience for everyone attending.
The flyer also includes general spectator information from the MCSD Athletic Handbook. While this section is not new, it does apply to all guests in attendance.
Home Athletic Event Expectations:
All spectators are expected to comply with the MCSD Athletic Handbook.
Parents and spectators should be reminded, and should keep in mind, that athletes are friendly rivals as members of opposing interscholastic athletic teams. Parents and spectators should be reminded also that the contest is between the teams and athletes engaged in the competition, and not between their supporters.
It is important that all parents and spectators:
- Know and demonstrate the fundamentals of good sportsmanship.
- Respect, cooperate, and respond enthusiastically to the cheerleaders, coaches and athletes of all teams.
- Censure fellow spectators whose behavior is inappropriate.
- Be positive toward players and coaches regardless of the outcome of the contest.
- Respect the judgment and the professionalism of the officials and coaches.
Spectators should avoid the following inappropriate behaviors:
- Verbal and/or physical abuse of contest officials.
- Berating athletes, coaches, officials or other spectators with chants, signs, or cheers.
- Interruption of contests by throwing objects, entering the area of competition or becoming involved in disruptive behavior.
If your child plans to attend a home sporting event, please review the following expectations:
Adult Chaperone Expectations:
- Ensure their children maintain appropriate behavior (according to the Middletown City School District Student Code of Conduct) and remain in designated spectator areas.
- Remain on site for the entire event; dropping off children and returning later is not permitted.
- Follow all spectator expectations.
Chaperone Expectation Enforcement:
- Any MHS student without a valid MHS student ID who is not accompanied by a supervising adult will not be permitted to enter the event.
- If a student’s behavior or the behavior of the supervising adult is deemed inappropriate, both will be asked to leave the facility.
High School Students:
- All Middletown High School students must enter with a valid MHS student ID.
- Maintain appropriate behavior according to the MCSD Student Code of Conduct and remain in designated spectator areas.
- Follow all spectator expectations.
Middle School Students:
- All Middletown Middle School students must enter with a parent, guardian or responsible adult (18+) with a purchased ticket for the event.
- Maintain appropriate behavior according to the MCSD Code of Conduct and remain in designated spectator areas.
- Arrive with an approved supervising adult.
- Follow all spectator expectations.
Elementary Students and Younger Children:
- All children (elementary age and younger) must enter and remain with their parent, guardian or responsible adult (18+) at all times.

Thank you for your support as we work together to keep our home events safe and enjoyable for all.
Let’s keep showing up and cheering on the Middies!
