Middletown City School District (MCSD) Board of Education approved Kelven Moss as the new varsity boys basketball coach for the Middletown High School (MHS) Middies. A 2001 MHS alumnus, Coach Moss looks forward to returning to and re-igniting the Middie Magic.

“I’m excited to be back at my alma mater as the leader of the [basketball] helm. My goal is to create a championship culture not only on the court, but in the classroom and in the community. Being a Middletown grad, I’m extremely passionate about bringing the Middie Magic back! I look forward to making all the alumni who have walked these hallways proud. It’s time to give these student-athletes the opportunity to believe their belief,” said Coach Moss.

Most recently, Coach Moss was the head coach at Fenwick High School in Franklin. Coach Moss has 14 years of coaching experience and eight as head coach. He led three teams to conference championships on the college level and he was part of a Regional Final appearance for the Middies as an assistant coach. Coach Moss has compiled 100 wins in seven years as a head coach. Currently, he is fifth in winning percentage and top 10 in wins in MHS history on the girls’ side.

"In Coach Moss we're getting a complete basketball coach," said Middletown athletic director JD Foust. "He truly understands what it means to be a Middie and the rich tradition of excellence that comes along with putting the purple and white jersey on. Kelven is a thorough teacher, an exceptional communicator and coach who understands X's and O's. As a head coach he's been known as someone who's adept at developing the total student-athlete. When you talk to him you see early on that he has a firm grasp of life's big picture. I believe he's going to be an excellent role model for the young men in Middletown. I am really excited to watch Coach Moss bring the pride back into Middie Basketball.”

While basketball is an obvious passion, Moss understands the importance of a positive role model for young people. While not on the court, Moss can be found at Marshall High School in Middletown where he is the assistant director of operations.

“Kelven Moss is an extremely dynamic and focused basketball coach. He cares deeply about our young people, is committed to developing our program, and will be an energetic part of our culture of #MiddieRising. Kelven is excited to bring the magic back to the Wade E. Miller Arena!” said Carmela Cotter, MHS principal.
