Middletown High School Robotics Program Receives $4,000 Grant from Gene Haas Foundation

MIDDLETOWN, OH — The Middletown High School Robotics program has been awarded a $4,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation (GHF) to support its Competitive Robotics class during its inaugural year.

The Gene Haas Foundation is dedicated to strengthening local communities by supporting education in manufacturing technologies and CNC machining. This investment will help expand opportunities for Middletown students as they build valuable, career-ready skills.

In this pilot year, students on the Middie Mechs and The .MIDIs robotics teams are gaining hands-on experience in computer-aided design (CAD), 3D printing, digital modeling, and machining. “Students are gaining hands-on experience in CAD, 3D printing, digital modeling, and machining while applying these skills to real-world engineering and advanced manufacturing projects,” said Janet Creech, Robotics teacher at Middletown High School. “The program also builds teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.”

“This robotics program is exactly what Passport to Tomorrow looks like in action,” said Superintendent Deborah Houser. “Our students aren’t just building robots, they’re building confidence, collaboration skills, and the ability to present their ideas to real engineers. That’s workforce readiness happening right now. When you walk into that classroom, you see innovation, teamwork, and purpose. Students working side-by-side, learning to network, collaborate, and compete at the next level. That’s the future of Middletown on display.”

The grant will allow the program to purchase additional tools, equipment, and technology to further develop the robotics lab. It will also ensure that every student has access to a team uniform and provide resources for marketing materials to promote the teams at competitions.

The Middletown High School Robotics program continues to expand opportunities for students to explore careers in engineering and manufacturing, preparing them for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
