Middletown City Schools Honors First Responders and Military Service at Barnitz Stadium
Middletown City Schools took time during the September 11 home football game at Barnitz Stadium to recognize local first responders, members of the U.S. military and district staff members who have served our country.
Before the Middies took on Oak Hills, members of the Middletown Fire Department and Middletown Police Department were welcomed onto the field in recognition of the first responders who serve the Middletown community.
School Resource Officer Caito joined the Middletown and Oak Hills captains at midfield and had the honor of flipping the coin before kickoff.
Members of the local U.S. Army Recruiting Center also participated in the evening’s activities. The group brought an inflatable tunnel for the Middies to run through as they entered the field and joined the team during its entrance onto the field carrying the American flag.
Recognizing Middletown Staff Who Have Served
The recognition continued at halftime as Middletown City Schools honored four current staff members and coaches who have served, or continue to serve, in the United States military.
Meghan Ratliff, an assistant wrestling coach, was recognized for her service in the U.S. Air Force.
Steve Saucer, a paraprofessional at Middletown High School and head girls wrestling coach, was recognized for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps.
A.Z. Cordero, an English Language Learner teacher at Middletown High School, was recognized for service in the U.S. Navy.
Jermaine Richards, a multi-sport coach within the district, was recognized for his service in the U.S. Air Force, where he continues to serve today.
The evening provided an opportunity for Middletown City Schools to recognize individuals who have dedicated themselves to serving others—within our schools, throughout the Middletown community and across our country.
We are proud to recognize our staff members for their military service and grateful to the Middletown first responders and U.S. Army representatives who joined us for a special evening at Barnitz Stadium.
