Middletown City School District
May 1, 2026
Middletown, OH – The Middletown City School District Board of Education is proud to announce that Mr. G. Elgin Card has been selected as the next superintendent of Middletown City Schools. The Board approved his appointment during a special meeting on May 1. Mr. Card will succeed Superintendent Deborah Houser, who has served in the role for the past three years.
Card will assume leadership duties on August 1, 2026. He currently serves as superintendent of Princeton City Schools. His career spans nearly every level of public education, including service as an elementary, middle, and high school teacher; high school principal; district leader in outreach, diversity, and inclusion; and superintendent.
“I am truly honored and excited to serve as the new Superintendent of Middletown City School District,” said Mr. Card. “I look forward to partnering with our students, families, staff, and community to build on the district’s strengths and create even more opportunities for success. My family and I look forward to building connections throughout the Middletown community and celebrating its successes.”
Mr. Card, a native of Jeffersonville, Ohio, is a graduate of Miami Trace High School and Urbana University, where he earned degrees in Elementary and Secondary Education and played football. He began his career teaching and coaching in Miami Trace Local Schools before serving in various teaching and leadership roles at Princeton City Schools.
He moved into administration in 2007 as assistant principal at Lakota West High School and later served as principal for eight years. Most recently, he served as superintendent of Princeton City Schools after holding a district leadership role in Lakota Local Schools.
Mr. Card is active in professional organizations, including serving as the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA) Regional 6 Director and as a member of The School Superintendents Association (AASA).
The district partnered with K12 Business Consulting to lead the superintendent search process. The Board’s decision followed a comprehensive and inclusive process that included multiple rounds of interviews with stakeholder groups, including parents and guardians, students, community members, administrators, and staff. Finalists also participated in the April 28 Meet the Candidates event, where attendees engaged directly with candidates and provided feedback.
Board President Dr. Chris Urso expressed appreciation for the strong community engagement throughout the process.
“The Board of Education is excited to welcome Elgin Card to Middletown,” said Dr. Urso. “He is an experienced, accomplished, and authentic educational leader who connects exceptionally well with people. Throughout the search process, it was clear that he brings both a strong vision for the future and a deep passion for expanding opportunities for all children. We are confident that his leadership will have a meaningful and lasting impact on our students, staff, and community when he assumes his duties on August 1, 2026.”
The Board extends its appreciation to Deborah Houser for her 18 years of dedicated service to Middletown City Schools. Her leadership and commitment to students and staff have left a lasting mark on the district.
