Mayfield’s Jackie Temming Named “Teacher of the Year” by Adopt A Class

Jackie Temming, a 5th-grade teacher at Mayfield Elementary, has been honored as a “Teacher of the Year” by Adopt A Class for her commitment to her students and school community.
Temming, who taught 5th-grade math and science during the 2024-2025 school year and will transition to teaching 6th-grade science and social studies this fall, has served the Mayfield Elementary community for 11 years.
This past year, Mrs. Temming led the coordination of Adopt A Class partnerships for all 5th-grade homerooms at Mayfield, facilitating transformative collaborations with business partners including MidPointe Library, MyUSA Credit Union, Hospice of Middletown, and AMS Parts.
“The lessons our business partners bring are always creative, engaging, and meaningful,” Temming said. “Every student gets involved, and it’s heartwarming to witness their enthusiasm and participation. From my perspective, it’s a joy to see these relationships grow. These businesses are truly committed to our students, and it’s clear they love spending time at Mayfield. My students and I couldn't feel more honored to have been 'adopted' by them.”
Mayfield Principal Heather Keal praised Temming’s leadership, adding:
“Mrs. Temming goes out of her way to make connections with the teams who come in, she supports the work they do, and she encourages students to ask questions and genuinely learn about the businesses. There is a lot of conversation around goal-setting and having a strong work ethic in the students' future career fields. Mrs. Temming's positive attitude, team approach, and growth mindset are some of the reasons she was chosen for this award. The business partners saw these characteristics in her, and she exhibits them every day at Mayfield.”
A Districtwide Impact
Currently, Amanda, Creekview, Mayfield, and Wildwood Elementary Schools participate in Adopt A Class partnerships across grades 3–5. Middletown Middle School is also involved in the program for 8th-graders. The regional nonprofit connects businesses with classrooms to build career readiness and inspire future leaders.
Superintendent Deborah Houser underscored the program’s significance:
“Adopt A Class is a game changer for MCSD. Local businesses build relationships with students and staff through monthly classroom visits and on-site experiences. This partnership breaks down school walls and connects learning directly to the workforce, making real-world, experiential learning most impactful.”
Jackie Temming’s recognition by Adopt A Class not only celebrates her dedication to student growth but also highlights the power of community collaboration in preparing Middies for a bright future.
MCSD is actively working to expand its partnership with Adopt A Class to all seven elementary schools in grades 3–5.
