District Closed for Total Solar Eclipse

Apr 2, 2024
Graphic depicting a solar eclipse reads "4/8/24 District closed for total solar eclipse."

Middletown City School District (MCSD) will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024, for the total solar eclipse. There will be no school or afterschool activities that day.

Locations across Ohio, including Middletown, will witness a total solar eclipse for the first time since 1806.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience marks a valuable learning opportunity for our students. Every student will receive a pair of solar eclipse glasses, allowing them to safely observe the historic event.

The next total solar eclipse visible in Ohio will be in 2099.

Read more about the decision to close for the eclipse.

Normal classes and district operations will resume on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of our school community.
