Amanda Elementary Earns Leader in Me Lighthouse Certification

Nov 3, 2026

Amanda Elementary has earned Leader in Me Lighthouse Certification from FranklinCovey Education, a globally recognized standard of excellence in student leadership, school culture and academics.

The certification recognizes successful implementation of Leader in Me and evidence of measurable results. It reflects a school where leadership extends beyond lessons into daily practices, relationships and opportunities for students to have a voice.

To celebrate, Amanda Elementary hosted its first PAC night of the school year. Every student and staff member received a matching shirt, and the school’s Lighthouse student team presented during a Town Hall.

Town Halls are whole-school gatherings led by students, who share updates and celebrate their peers’ achievements. Recognitions include attendance improvements and certificates honoring students who demonstrate Leader in Me habits. Leading these gatherings gives students opportunities to practice public speaking, build confidence and recognize the contributions of others.

“Throughout my years in education, I’ve seen how meaningful it is for students to grow in confidence and take pride in their learning,” said Superintendent G. Elgin Card. “Amanda has spent years implementing Leader in Me and working toward Lighthouse Certification. At their Town Hall and during the Lighthouse team’s presentation to our Board of Education, I saw that commitment reflected in students taking the lead and sharing what matters to them. This recognition celebrates their hard work and the staff and families who have supported them along the way.”

Through Leader in Me, students learn to take ownership of their learning, set goals and develop responsibility. Staff and families partner to support these skills, building a positive school culture where students can grow as learners and leaders. These experiences support Middletown City School District’s mission to unite, transform and inspire all students.

Leader in Me is an evidence-based PK–12 process built on the belief that every child has unique strengths and the ability to lead. It integrates leadership and life skills into everyday school experiences, including principles from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Lighthouse Certification marks a milestone in Amanda Elementary’s continued work to strengthen leadership, culture and academics while expanding opportunities for every student to contribute and succeed.
