Hello Wildwood Wildcat families! I am honored and excited to welcome each and every one of you to the 2016-2017 school year. I am sure this year will prove to be both challenging and rewarding for all of our students!
Elementary school is a time for growth, change, and exploration. Along the path from Kindergarten to fifth grade, students encounter and manage new routines and expectations. Students transform from learning to read to reading to learn. The staff here at Wildwood believes that all students have not only the capacity, but also the ability to meet this year’s expectations with success.
Wildwood Elementary serves approximately 540 students in grades K-5. Our school has a very culturally diverse student population with children representing many countries around the world. Students are exposed to core curriculum throughout their day, including Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Additionally, here at Wildwood students are fortunate to experience Art, Music, Physical Education and Technology. We operate on a 1:2 ratio of chromebooks to students. Everyday students have the opportunity to use technology to enhance their learning.
We embrace MIDDIE PRIDE here at Wildwood. Expectations are taught and modeled for students on what MIDDIE PRIDE looks like and sounds like in all aspects of the school day. Students are rewarded in various ways when they show their MIDDIE PRIDE. Through this positive behavior system, we are supporting a safe and positive learning environment for all students. I firmly believe that students are best served when parents, teachers, administrators and community work together to support our children. With that being said, HOW DO YOU SHOW MIDDIE PRIDE? :)
Just to give you a little background about me: I am a wife, mother, educator, mentor and coach. I have been married for 18 years. I have three children (15, 14, 8) who have all attended Wildwood at some point. I have spent all 18 years of my career here in Middletown teaching everything from 1st grade to 5th grade at McKinley, Roosevelt and the last 11 years here at Wildwood. I served as the Teacher Leader this last school year. I have mentored many teachers and pre-service teachers throughout my tenure. Coaching has been a large part of my personal life. I have coached high school softball, travel softball, cheer and soccer.
I look forward to a highly productive school year. Please accept this invitation to engage in open lines of communication with us. Our staff is ready to serve you and your students to the best of our ability. Let’s make this a year to remember!
Yours in Education,
Mrs. Keri Hensley
