Considerations of major importance at Rosedale School include achievement and maintenance of high standardized and proficiency test scores precipitated by demands on the parts of students, parents and teachers for strong commitments to the highest of academic standards. The belief is that the nurturing of this commitment in the comforting, non-threatening environment by a staff of team-oriented adults will enable the students of Rosedale School to become life-long learners with high expectations in all aspects of their lives. In support of these purposes, Rosedale School states its commitment to:
Provide an environment that allows children to learn the joys of learning by enjoying school and to ultimately become a ""life-long learner"".
Rosedale School received approval from the Board of Education as a site-based school in September of 1994. In the first year as a site-based school, the Rosedale Elementary School Leadership Team (R.E.S.L.) implemented a change in the penmanship curriculum and the initial response of students, parents and staff has been quite favorable.
Teachers have come together at Rosedale to provide their students with a perfect mix of traditional and innovative teaching styles to best accommodate the variety of their students' learning styles. Literature-based/ literature-enriched approaches to instruction develop a love for reading among Rosedale students. A combination of caring teachers and concerned parents come together with the positive attitude toward education of the students to produce a list of well-over 50% of the students who achieve a 3.0 grade point average or above every grading period. As a matter of fact, at the end of any grading period as many as 8-10% of the traditionally-graded students achieve a grade point average of 4.0.
Parents play such a vital role as part of the Rosedale team that can take credit for all of the positive social and academic successes of the students. The P.T.O. is extremely active and generous, funding such student activities as educational field trips, visits by renowned children's literature authors, and award and recognition certificates.
Many of the parents find time in their busy schedules to become volunteers in the school as part of our Rosedale Active Volunteer Effort (R.A.V.E.). R.A.V.E. was formed six years ago and has since blossomed into a much heralded and highly successful movement. Parent volunteers have logged well over 900 hours per year of photocopying, tutoring, supervising, cutting, coloring and counting in an effort to minimize teachers' time-consuming chores, thereby maximizing on the teachers' time working directly with students.
More than anything, the Rosedale Community of students, parents, teachers and support staff is proud of the way they have been able to come together and learn to understand one another through sharing ideas and keeping the lines of communication open at all times. With high ideals and teamwork, the Rosedale Community proudly supports the school's motto, ""Expect Excellence Everyday"".
