From the desk of Rose Marie Stiehl:
Dear Community Member:
Over 40 years of involvement in Adult Education taught me more than a few lessons. As a “young” adult educator, I believed that everyone should be able to just pull themselves up by the bootstraps and be a success. I was wrong. In many cases, people with whom we work take five steps forward toward a goal and then something happens to move them eight steps backwards. Some are jobless high school dropouts. Some are middle-aged displaced workers. The scenarios are endless. Something, someone needs to intervene and help each person off the merry-go-round. Adult Education’s caring, award-winning, incredibly dedicated staff is trained to work with folks who need a Second Chance.
GED preparation has always formed the cornerstone of Adult Education. Each year, hundreds of adults enroll in day or evening classes to assist them in preparing to take this test leading to the Ohio High School Equivalency Diploma. Last year 318 adults in caps and gowns walked across the stage to receive their diplomas.
The learning doesn’t stop with the GED. Check out the following possibilities below for you, a friend, a relative, or someone you love:
Prepare to take an LPN, Parapro, or work-related entrance exam. (No charge)
Brush-up on English, Math, Science and Social Studies to pass the GED. Join a class in Middletown, Trenton, Oxford and/or at Butler Technology Center. (No charge)
Learn to Read or improve reading skills with a private tutor matched with any adult struggling to read. (No charge)
Learn English, U.S. citizenship, culture and everyday living U.S. style. Designed for those who speak other languages, classes are located in Hamilton, West Chester, Oxford, and Middletown. (No charge)
Take the practice GED test any Tuesday and Thursday, morning or evening. Pass the Practice Test and you earn a Fee Waiver worth $55.00. You can then take the GED test free.
Take the official GED test at our Testing Center.. (No charge with Fee Waiver).
Our workforce class at Middletown Regional Hospital touches every new Patient Care Assistant by assessing and assisting each person in basic skills, medical terminology and computer skills.
Most classes are free to students thanks to federal and state grants. Your tax dollars are at work in this program where 193 unemployed adults became employed. Based on minimum wage jobs, two million dollars were returned to the economy. For every District dollar used to support the program, at least $31.00 was returned to the economy by people obtaining jobs. That does not include adults who no longer are on welfare or upgrade their employment.
We welcome your comments and suggestions. They are critical to the continued improvement, progress, and growth of your adult education program.
