Ohio Graduation Test OGT Preparation

The class of 2017 and earlier in the state of Ohio must still pass all five parts, Reading, Math, Writing, Science, and Social Studies, of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) in order to receive high school diplomas (See Alternative Conditions for Eligibility for a Diploma).    Students begin taking the OGT in 10th grade and they have seven opportunities to pass each of the five tests.  One of the opportunities is over the summer.

As a district, Middletown City Schools strongly encourages ALL students who still need to pass a portion of the OGT to take advantage of ALL seven opportunities—including those provided during the summer.

The state of Ohio requires students who plan to take the Summer OGT to take a 10 hour preparation class.  Students who were enrolled in Middletown City Schools during the 2014-2015 school year may take the Ohio Graduation Test Preparation Class for FREE.

The last and final tournament will be the National Speech & Debate Association's National Tournament held the week of June 14th in Dallas, Texas.  Sophomores Irene Smith & Shelby Swanger will be competing in Debate.

Mayfield Student Pays it Forward
One of Mayfield Elementary's 5th Grade ELL students, Robert Medina, saved over $200 in Middie Bucks to pay it forward to his 2nd grade brother Abraham.  Robert purchased a gently used BMX bike from Mayfield Elementary's Pride Shop.  When asked why, Robert said Abraham needed it more than he did. After word traveled through the school of this generous love and integrity, the Mayfield Elementary staff discovered Robert didn't have a bike of his own and decided one more act of pride was needed.  Mayfield Elementary presented Robert with his very own, brand new BMX bike, helmet, and lock all in his favorite color: red.  Both boys were celebrated and honored in front of Robert's 5th Grade peers at Mayfield's 5th grade graduation.  Mayfield Principal, Andrea Blevins, said Robert's actions embodied what being a Middie truly means to which the crowd responded in a standing ovation.
