District students continue to improve on state tests
Middletown City Schools Performance index has again improved 2.3 points since 2007, which leaves the district with the Continuous Improvement designation.
The Performance Index rewards the achievement of every student, not just those who score proficient or higher. The district earns points based on how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3-8 and the 10th grade Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).
The Middletown School District met the Value - Added Measure, which means that students experienced at least one year of academic growth.
Individual building success stories include:
- Central Academy non-graded moved from Continuous Improvement designation to Effective.
- Mayfield Elementary School moved from the Continuous Improvement designation to Effective.
- According to the Value - Added Measure, Central, Creekview, and Mayfield students experienced MORE than one year of academic growth.
- The Performance Index increased at Amanda, Mayfield, Rosa Parks elementary schools, Central Academy non-graded, and Vail and Verity Middle Schools.
- All schools had at least a 93% attendance rate, which is the state standard.
- Central Academy non-graded, Miller Ridge and Wildwood elementary schools met the Annual Yearly Progress Goal.
AYP is a federally-required measure included in the No Child Left Behind Act. Students groups in ten categories are evaluated for AYP goals in reading and math. Student groups are: All students; American Indian; Hispanic; White, Non-Hispanic, Limited English Proficient, Black, Non-Hispanic, Asian, Multi Racial, Economically Disadvantaged, Students with Disabilities. The AYP goal increases each year. A designated percentage of students passing math and reading tests, in every group must be achieved to meet the AYP Goal.
Superintendent Greg Rasmussen said, "It is important to celebrate the hard work of our students, teachers and staff. Thanks to the community for their support of our schools. We acknowledge we have a great deal of work to do. It will take all of us, working together to accomplish our goals. Our staff is ready and willing to do what it takes."
